Rainforest Projects

Building the Enabling Conditions for a Pan-Amazon Bioeconomy Network

Grantee: WRI Brasil

Subgrantee: Instituto Floresta Tropical

Geographic Focus Brazil and Amazon countries

Duration: September 2025 – August 2027

About the Project

The Pan-Amazon Network for the Bioeconomy has been established with the purpose to promote a locally-led sustainable bioeconomy in the Amazon. The Network brings together bioeconomy actors from diverse sectors, e.g., local producers, indigenous communities, impact investors, research institutes.

With the support of JFF funding, this project will support the Secretariat’s sustainability as well as the Strengthening Capabilities Taskforce to engage organisations in the region capable of training the workforce for the bioeconomy in the Amazon region. Existing training efforts have happened on a project-by-project basis; this will instead ensure that efforts are joined-up, strategic and can reach more communities.

The project will develop the materials required to build a technical bioeconomy workforce and test these in pilot initiatives in three extractive reserves in Brazil. The learnings from this initiative will then be transferred to other pan-Amazon countries to strengthen capabilities at the regional level.
