Grantee: Global Alliance of Territorial Communities (GATC)
Geographic Focus Global
Duration: May 2025 – June 2026
The Tropical Forests Forever Facility (TFFF) is a proposed new private and public investment fund that seeks to incentivise Tropical Forest Countries (TFCs) to preserve intact forests. Indigenous Peoples & Local Communities (IP&LCs) are critical partners to manage and conserve the world’s remaining intact forests and there is a growing consensus to recognise the role of IP&LCs in nature and climate finance, because to-date, they have received very limited funding despite their significant contribution to climate change mitigation.
JFF is supporting the GATC to engage in a co-design process to develop the Financing Allocation Mechanism for IP&LCs within the TFFF. This process is expected to result in confirmation on the percentage of funds to be allocated directly to IP&LCs; the process for directing these funds; and plans for the continued engagement in the governance of TFFF by IP&LCs. .
About the GATC:
The Global Alliance of Territorial Communities (GATC) is an Indigenous-led global network, governed by indigenous peoples and local community organizations across the topical belt, which represents the needs of 35M people in forest territories in Asia, Africa and Latin America. By participating in democratic processes, the GATC advocates for land rights, direct financing, respect of traditional knowledge, protection of life and the right to Free, Prior and Informed Consent (FPIC) for Indigenous Peoples and Local Communities (IP&LCs).
